How did we help?
Ferguson Roofing provided financial support for a friend who lost a parent and companion to cancer and donated funds to a dedicated rider participating in Pedal the Cause.
What does Pedal the Cause do? Pedal the Cause raises contributions through their annual cycling challenge, which funds cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The ultimate goal is to pedal toward a cure and an end to cancer. They work toward that goal by funding “best-in-breed” ideas to develop critical research and data in an effort to lead to proof of concept ideas. These ideas grow into projects that often produce innovative treatments including: prevention techniques, diagnostics, and even cures.
Why did we elect to contribute to Pedal the Cause?
We all know someone who has been affected by cancer either directly or through our connection to family and friends. Pedal the Cause decided to confront cancer head-on with the courageous aim to find a cure to cancer – all cancer. In 2009 they directed their organization to utilize 100% of their public funding toward world-class cancer research.
Pedal the Cause donated a record-breaking $4.5 million to fund cancer research, supported by 3,598 riders, 40,000 donors, and 1,200+ volunteers. This valiant effort, along with direct funding of research done right here in St. Louis, is exactly the kind of effort the 80 in 80 project seeks to support. Pedal the Cause works to achieve big goals to help people on a global scale while helping local people come together. We love supporting an event that supports health and fitness while raising funds for innovative research and boosting the medical research portion of the local economy at the same time.
