What did we do to help?
In August, the Jason Motte Foundation will host its 7th Cornhole Challenge in St. Louis, Missouri, and Memphis, Tennessee. Ferguson Roofing is proud to be one of the longest-running supporters of this event. We have made financial contributions and have sent a sponsored team to the Cornhole Challenge for years as we continue to work in the united effort to combat cancer.
What does the Jason Motte Foundation do?
In 2010, Jason Motte, a former professional baseball player and relief pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Chicago Cubs, the Colorado Rockies, and the Atlanta Braves, had a family member battling cancer at the West Center Clinic in Memphis, Tennesee. That connection sparked the creation of his foundation that now sponsors charity events and utilizes Jason’s connection with Major League Baseball, owners, and players to combat cancer.
The JMF organizes events such as Strike Out Cancer with Jason Motte and the annual Cornhole Challenge fundraiser hosted in St. Louis and Memphis. The Foundation has a mission to raise funds and provide comfort for patients and their families affected by cancer.
Why did we choose to support the Jason Motte Foundation?
In addition to Ferguson Roofing’s ongoing support of organizations combating some of the most prevalent diseases, we’ve formed a personal connection to this fantastic foundation.
During our involvement with the local Cornhole Challenge, St. Louis Cardinals Second Baseman Kolten Wong traded hats with Carson, the son of our general manager, Jeff Houran. That connection has endured and they still text and talk baseball. That’s just one example of the sincere effort, energy, and connection that these athletes bring to the fight against cancer.
Cancer affects all our lives. Helping businesses, our community, and the power to unify people to face a common threat represents the heart of the 80 in 80 Project. Helping with the JMF and seeing what they bring to the fight against cancer inspires and fuels our efforts to make a difference in people’s lives, our community, other businesses, and in the world.
There’s an old saying that applies to those who don’t believe one person can make a difference in facing monumental challenges: “Try spending one night alone in a room with a mosquito.” Jason is an individual standing up to a colossal challenge. We are proud to help the Jason Motte Foundation take the fight to cancer by providing comfort and support to those on the frontlines of the battle.
